Chimpanzee Conservation and Sensitization Program

Awareness materials: Guinea

The results from the Guinean KAP Survey were used to identify the most prevalent issues facing chimpanzees and to formulate the following awareness materials to increase public knowledge about chimpanzees, the threats they face, and the importance of their protection. More materials will be added as they become available.

Billboards

A total of 10 billboards will be erected at highly populated locations throughout Guinea in order to provide information to the general public about chimpanzees. The billboards carry messages about the similarities between chimpanzees and humans, ecological functions performed by chimps, chimpanzee conservation status and chimpanzee behavior. All billboards carry a common message about law enforcement.

Posters

A total of 5,000 posters will be distributed through Guinea. There are three different poster models to emphasize the threats to chimpanzees, the punishments for hunting and selling chimpanzees, and the necessities for protecting chimpanzee habitat. These posters are placed in offices, public meeting places, and schools to reach both the general public and youth.

Stickers

5,000 stickers are being created to disseminate throughout Guinea to provide information about wildlife laws concerning chimpanzees. There are four models of stickers which include messages on hunting chimpanzees, eating chimpanzee meat, and the chimpanzee pet-trade. These messages will be diffused with the help of private and public motor vehicles to reach a large portion of the general public.

Radio Jingles

To reach the linguistically diverse population of Guinea, there are a total of 12 radio spots, including a traditional style and a rap performed in six different local languages. With the guidance of the CCSP staff, these radio jingles were prepared by local professional artist and drama groups. The jingles are now broadcasted on national radio stations, especially targeting rural areas and the illiterate populations. The messages for the radio spots focus on protecting chimpanzees and their habitat.
