Projects:
The GSRC was created to coordinate the pioneering research
conducted by Jane Goodall on wild chimpanzee populations
in Gombe National park. The GSRC is located on the eastern
shore of Lake Tanganyika, Tanzania.
In 1994, the Jane Goodall Institute designed a pilot
project to address poverty and support sustainable livelihoods
in villages around Lake Tanganyika, Tanzania, while
arresting the rapid degradation of natural resources,
especially in the remaining indigenous forest.
Events:
On September 21, 2006, the Jane Goodall Institute and the Woodrow Wilson Center hosted Tanzania's First Lady Salma Kikwete, along with an array of experts from the nonprofit, government and private sectors, to discuss "The Challenges of and Opportunities for Expanded Ecotourism Development in Tanzania" in Washington D.C.
