Crowdfunding Success - JGI Raises Funds for Herbal Medicine Project

This spring, JGI successfully completed its first crowdfunding campaign for Jane Goodall’s Roots & Shoots in Tanzania, raising over $16,000 via Pozible. The project aims to engage students from Sokoine Primary School in a study of local plants found in a nearby forest reserve.

Having protected the forest reserve for a number of years now, the students are eager to spread information about the medicinal benefit of plants found in the forest.

Jane Goodall’s Roots & Shoots National Youth Leadership Council Training

For the last decade, the Jane Goodall’s Roots & Shoots National Youth Leadership Council (NYLC) has provided highly motivated and dedicated young leaders throughout the United States with the training, resources and opportunities they need to develop into community leaders who create positive change in their own backyards and around the world. These youth leaders emerge at the forefront of the next generation of responsible global citizens, working to protect and improve communities for people, animals, and the environment we all share.

Jane Goodall’s Roots & Shoots Education Project in Colorado

Over the last six months, the Jane Goodall Institute (JGI) has made a huge splash throughout the state of Colorado by empowering educators to get involved in Jane Goodall’s Roots & Shoots and helping them implement service-learning campaigns in their classrooms.

Roots & Shoots Summit

It’s my favorite time of the year—leaves are turning and it’s time for the Roots & Shoots North
America Summit. I love our Summits because Roots & Shoots members know that giving back
should be fun. More than just a conference, the yearly event is a celebration of the community
impact that members have through their projects and volunteering.

Service Project Reflection

Two months ago, I was trekking through the Cedar River Watershed in Seattle, Wash. I was delighted to be spending a week of my summer with fellow Roots & Shoots Youth Leaders at the 2011 Youth Leadership Retreat. Every year, the retreat offers valuable training through workshops and service. This year’s service project in Seattle allowed Youth Leaders to study the effectiveness of local watershed conservation projects. Currently, participants are developing a PSA from the video footage that we captured during our visit.

Greetings from the 2011-12 Roots & Shoots Youth Leadership Fellow!

It has been one month since I started as the Fellow. I came to this position after being involved with a
Roots & Shoots Youth Leadership Council. Having the opportunity to spend time with the youth leaders, I
have come to learn what an incredible group of individuals they are - enthusiastic, passionate and inspiring.
One of the projects that I was extremely excited to help lead is the annual Global Youth Campaign.
