Highlights from 80 Years of Jane - The Global Celebration for Dr. Goodall's 80th Birthday

Earlier this month, the Jane Goodall Institute (JGI) celebrated Dr. Goodall’s 80th birthday. For the occasion Dr. Goodall didn’t want gifts or lavish parties.

All she wanted was for people around the world to help JGI raise enough funds to finish building out three pristine islands for the chimpanzees of Tchimpounga Chimpanzee Rehabilitation Center in the Republic of Congo, and to do an action in their community dedicated to Dr.

Speaking Out as One for Elephants

Today, Dr. Goodall, with a number of other people and groups in conservation, music, business, and Hollywood posted an open letter in the Washington Post to President Barack Obama in support of the end of US trade in illegal ivory. You can see the letter below.

Dr. Jane Reflects on Last Year's Boston Marathon Tragedy

A year ago the world was shocked to hear of the horrific bombing at the finishing line of the Boston Marathon. Senseless and cruel. All the joy and fun and sense of achievement were, in one moment, changed to fear, pain and anguish. And, as the number of dead and wounded became clear, grief. And anger.

Patrick Downes, the nephew of a close friend of mine and his new wife Jess, were among the victims, caught in the blast. Each lost a leg. Each went through a long series of painful operations.

Summer 2013 Travel Blog: Jane Travels to Alaska with Disneynature to Witness Bears in the Wilderness

Last summer, Jane had the opportunity to travel to Alaska, a place where she has always wanted to visit.  Jane’s trip to Alaska was for the filming of the new Disneynature movie, “Bears”, showcasing the life of two mother bears and their young cubs. Jane had an amazing time visiting Alaska’s national parks, observing bears in the wild and experiencing the natural beauty Alaska has to offer.

Introduction to the “Seeds of Hope” Blog Series

Any book can only be so many pages, and the world of plants is ever-evolving.  With this in mind, now that “Seeds of Hope: Wisdom and Wonder from the World of Plants” is scheduled for publication in April, I want to create a dialogue and share more stories about trees and plants, and, perhaps most importantly, discuss ways that you can help protect them.

A Special Holiday Message from Dr. Jane Goodall

“Now is the season of 'good cheer' when people step back, take a few breaths, and spend time with family and friends.  I have at last arrived back at home in Bournemouth to be with my sister Judy, her daughter Pip, and her grandchildren, 14-year-old Alex and 13-year-old Nickolai. And, of course, the three dogs:  Charlie, Calie Grace and Henry Bean. We will then be joined by my granddaughter Angel with two friends from Tanzania, and Judy's other daughter, Emma, with her two dogs!
