Jane Gets a Special Degree in Spain

Tuesday, December 22, 2009 - 2:42pm

Shortly before Thanksgiving, Jane was in Spain for several days to promote the work of the Jane Goodall Institute - Spain and Jane Goodall's Roots & Shoots program. In between speeches and events, Jane made time to visit the Universidad Pablo de Olavide in Seville (named after the Spanish-Peruvian politician) to receive an honorary degree. This is only the sixth time the university has awarded an individual with an honorary doctorate degree, and is a recognition of Jane's scientific accomplishments and efforts to raise awareness about environmental conservation.

The beautiful ceremony was presided over by university rector Juan Jimenez.. It was part of the 8th International Congress of Environmental Journalism, organized by the Journalists Association of Environmental Information. Here are a few photos.
