Earlier in the month, Jane received the Lifetime Achievement award at this year's Observer Ethical Awards. At the London ceremony, the judges said Jane merited the honor because of her "promotion of the planet" and her "extraordinary contribution to the development of our understanding of the natural world, particularly broadening our knowledge of the habits of chimpanzees."

Due to her travel schedule, Jane was unable to receive the award in person, but she sent a message saying, “I am very honored to receive this recognition and am sorry not to be with you this evening. Only when we can learn to show respect for each other, all animals and our planet can we begin to heal our world. The Jane Goodall Institute (JGI) is working with young people of all ages through our Roots & Shoots programme and they are truly making a difference."

Tara Golshan, the Jane Goodall Institute-UK's executive director for education, humbly accepted the award on Jane's behalf. Tara also had the chance to meet with the judges and TV presenter Ben Fogle while representing the JGI global family.
