Meet Mbebo

Friday, March 30, 2012 - 12:55pm

In the weeks prior to the release of Disneynature's newest True-Life Adventure, Chimpanzee, we wanted to give you a daily glimpse into the lives of some of the youngest residents at JGI's Tchimpounga Chimpanzee Rehabilitation Center in the Republic of Congo.

If you see Chimpanzee during the movie's opening week (April 20-26, 2012), Disneynature will make a donation to the Jane Goodall Institute through the Disney Worldwide Conservation Fund to protect chimpanzees, including those residing at the Tchimpounga sanctuary.

Mbebo is growing very quickly. In this picture, he is displaying to the caretakers and other chimps at the Tchimpounga sanctuary. Mbebo wants to show them that he is strong and big.

I took my mother and sister

I took my mother and sister to see CHIMPANZEE over the weekend. What a fantastic film! We are used to seeing chimps on the television, so to see them on the big screen was a real thrill. The cinematography was incredible. The rainforest, the close-ups of their faces; those images will stay with me forever. Hat's off to everyone involved in the making of the film.

Dear Jane, I am 32 years old

Dear Jane,
I am 32 years old and since I was a little girl you have been my idol. I surrounded myself with stuffed anima chimpanzees, books, movies and so on. It was my dream to be the next "Jane Goodall." Life took another turn when I grew up and I had to change my dream. But I hope someday I can fufill it. I don't even know you but I love you for all the work you have done. I respect you more than anyone I know. I am trying to get my son interested in Great Apes and we recently saw the movie Chimpanzee. After explaining to him the dangers of loosing our close relatives at 4 years old he is making a donation and thinks you are the neatest person in the world. We love you Jane!

You probably get this alot, but it's because you are AMAZING. Thanks for making a difference in not only the lives of chimpanzees, but in the lives of humans, too. I read your book, because my mom told me to read it. (I'm 10) She said you were her role model, and your my own role model, too! I'll try to help the environment, just like you!
