2013 Latin America Lecture Tour: Jane Receives Diploma in Argentina

This week, after a successful fall tour in the United States and Canada, Jane headed to Latin America. Over the next five weeks, she will travel to six counties, spreading her message of hope and meeting with young people involved in Jane Goodall’s Roots & Shoots. 2013 U.S. Fall Lecture Tour: Jane Visits the West Coast

This October, after a short stop in Toronto, Canada, Jane made her way to the San Francisco Bay Area for a number of inspiring events. Her visit began with a lecture to staff at Clif Bar & Company about sustainable food practices and the importance of conservation. Prior to her remarks, Jane met with the company’s founders, Gary Erickson and Kit Crawford, and Kevin Cleary, the company’s chief executive officer, for a tour of the Clif Bar facility.

It’s certainly been an exciting fall for Jane! After receiving an honorary degree at University of St Andrews in Scotland, she headed to New York City to take part in the UN International Day of Peace, the International Women’s Earth and Climate Initiative Summit, and the Humane Education Conference.

Last Friday, Jane was one of 17 inspiring individuals on site to receive an honorary degree at the University of St Andrews in Scotland. The day was filled with excitement as the event marked the celebration of the university’s 600th anniversary. You can read a press release about the event here

International Travel: Jane in Africa Part I

During her summer tour of Africa, Jane spent time at the Jane Goodall Institute’s Tchimpounga Chimpanzee Rehabilitation Center (TCRC) in the Republic of Congo. For more than 20 years, the Institute has worked to ensure the well-being of orphaned and abandoned chimpanzees confiscated by Congolese authorities as part of their efforts to combat the illegal commercial bushmeat and pet trades.  JGI cares for these confiscated chimpanzees at TCRC, the largest chimpanzee sanctuary in Africa.

For nearly a decade, the Jane Goodall Institute (JGI) has supported efforts to empower youth on the Pine Ridge Indian Reservation in South Dakota through the Institute’s Jane Goodall’s Roots & Shoots program.

International Travel: Jane in Uganda

After her successful Rotary appearance in Portugal, Jane left for an extended African tour. She made stops in South Africa and Tanzania and then traveled to Uganda. On July 9, while at Uganda’s Ngamba Island Chimpanzee Sanctuary, Jane released 17 African Grey Parrots. In April of 2010, the birds were confiscated after being illegally shipped to Bulgaria. Jane was delighted to be on hand to watch the birds’ return to the wilds of Africa!

International Travel: Jane at The Observer Ethical Awards in the United Kingdom

Last week, Jane attended The Observer Ethical Awards in London where she presented the Lifetime Achievement Award to Lenny Henry.
