This spring, JGI successfully completed its first crowdfunding campaign for Jane Goodall’s Roots & Shoots in Tanzania, raising over $16,000 via Pozible. The project aims to engage students from Sokoine Primary School in a study of local plants found in a nearby forest reserve.

Having protected the forest reserve for a number of years now, the students are eager to spread information about the medicinal benefit of plants found in the forest.

Dr. Goodall Promotes Global Education in Taiwan

During a recent stop in Taiwan, Dr. Goodall read to a young girl named Nadine. As she tours the world, Dr. Goodall constantly encourages young people to take action to improve this planet we call home. The Jane Goodall Institute (JGI) knows this cannot happen without education based on the Institute's experience working with the world's children, particularly young women in Africa. In Tanzania, for example, JGI actively promotes girls' education because it has found that improving literacy rates among women improves the well-being of the communities in which they live.

Sustainable Peace for a Sustainable Future: UN International Day of Peace

Each year, as a United Nations Messenger of Peace, Dr. Goodall participates in the UN's observance of the International Day of Peace including a ceremonial ringing of the UN's Peace Bell and Student Conference. This year's theme, Sustainable Peace for a Sustainable Future was very fitting for Dr.
