As we continue to mourn the loss of Cecil, the lion who was killed in Zimbabwe as a result of trophy hunting and has become a poster child for campaigns on cruel treatment of wildlife, Dr. Goodall continues to draw attention to the whole issue of trophy hunting and wildlife trafficking by influencing people and companies who can do their part in ending this cruel sport and trade. Dr. Goodall's Statement on Abandoned New York Blood Center Chimps

On Tuesday, July 21, hominoid specialist and Change.org petition starter, Dr. Brian Hare will deliver 185,000 petition signatures to the New York Blood Center (NYBC) headquarters in New York City. Dr. Hare, along with the Jane Goodall Institute, the Humane Society of the United States and nearly 30 other partners are urging the Center to reinstate funding for the lifetime care of 66 chimpanzees in Liberia previously used for medical research, abandoned by the NYBC in March.

Dr. Goodall Applauds China's Action to End the Domestic Sale of Ivory

In a statement from today, Dr. Jane Goodall congratulates China on their announcement to end the domestic sale of ivory. Dr. Goodall and the Jane Goodall Institute appluad the government's destruction of 1,500 pounds of their ivory stocks, expressing their commitment to supporting the international action against the poaching of elephants and rhinos.

Jane Urges Air France to End their Part in Shipping Live Primates

In a recent letter to the CEO of Air France, Dr. Goodall urges the airline to stop their part in the cruel business of shipping primates for medical research. Other major airlines have already stopped transporting animals for medical research, including Delta, United and American Airlines.
