Jane Goodall's Roots & Shoots, the environmental and humanitarian youth program of the Jane Goodall Institute, gathers young leaders and their adult mentors for leadership trainings throughout the year. Training with the tools and resources necessary to plan their Roots & Shoots projects, these leaders have a positive impact on their communities by improving the environment and make the world a better place for people and animals.

We are proud to announce that Roots & Shoots Native Americas project has come in 2nd place in the Disney’s Friends for Change: Project Green campaign! Thanks to the many supporters who voted for Roots & Shoots over the last few weeks to keep us in the top three!
Help Roots & Shoots Native Americas Project win $100,000 through Disney Friends for Change!
Since 2006, Roots & Shoots has been working with the Oglala Lakota Tribe on the Pine Ridge Reservation in South Dakota. The Roots & Shoots Native Americas project works with the entire Pine Ridge community planting community gardens, doing Roots & Shoots projects and learning about traditional practices.

Wonderful news! The Congolese government recently ratified a decree to expand the Tchimpounga Nature Reserve by 750 percent.
Making a Statement
Dr. Goodall recently submitted a statement to the U.S. House of Representatives urging reauthorization of legislation that would extend federal support for critical great ape conservation projects until the year 2016.
Roots & Shoots youth reach out to Haiti
Young people from all over the United States and countries including England, Canada, Vietnam, Singapore and Barbados are reaching out to young people in Haiti through an artwork and messaging campaign organized by Jane Goodall’s Roots & Shoots.
Los Angeles Mayor Endorses Jane Goodall’s Roots & Shoots
California is one of the Jane Goodall’s Roots & Shoots program’s most energized, active locations. More than 10,500 students in the Eureka state are working to preserve and improve the environment, express care and concern for animals, and benefit the human community.
