Jane Goodall Global Leadership Awards - September 24, 2011

On Sept. 24, 2011, the Jane Goodall Institute hosted "A Conversation with Jane Goodall" featuring the Jane Goodall Global Leadership Awards. The awards honor the work and achievements of individuals and organizations that embody the Institute’s mission by taking informed and compassionate action on behalf of all living things.

The 2011 Jane Goodall Global Leadership Award winners include:
Esri for Excellence in Conservation Science

2011 Responsible Activism in Media & Entertainment Award - Dave Matthews

The 2011 Jane Goodall Global Leadership Awards were presented on September 24, 2011. This year's winner for Responsible Activism in Media and Entertainment was Dave Matthews. This award pays tribute to outstanding individuals who leverage their celebrity to advocate for sustainability, conservation and humanity in the spirit of Dr. Jane Goodall and her remarkable work.

2011 Corporate Social Responsibility Award - Disney

The 2011 Jane Goodall Global Leadership Awards were presented on September 24, 2011. This years winner for Corporate Social Responsibility was The Walt Disney Company. This award honors a corporation or business that has taken significant steps to better our world through responsible business practices.

2011 Excellence in Public Policy Award - Rep. George Miller

The 2011 Jane Goodall Global Leadership Awards were presented on September 24, 2011. This year's winner for Excellence in Public Policy was The Honorable George Miller, U.S. Representative, California, 7th District. This award honors an individual who uses his or her position as an elected official or public servant to support policies that ensure a better future for our natural world.

2011 Excellence in Education Award - Renée Gunther

The 2011 Jane Goodall Global Leadership Awards were presented on September 24, 2011. This year's winner for the Excellence in Education Award was Renée Gunther. This award recognizes a teacher who exhibits leadership and excellence in his or her work to help preserve our natural world, protect animals and benefit our human community.

2011 Roots & Shoots Youth Leadership Award - Lauren Gibson & Adam Anthony

The 2011 Jane Goodall Global Leadership Awards were presented on September 24, 2011. This year's winners for the Roots & Shoots Youth Leadership Award were Lauren Gibson from Carmel, Ind. and Adam Anthony from Dar es Salaam, Tanzania. This award honors an individual (aged 13-26) who demonstrates leadership and excellence through his or her work to help preserve and protect our natural world.

2011 Excellence in Conservation Science Award - Esri

The 2011 Jane Goodall Global Leadership Awards were presented on September 24, 2011. This year's winner for Excellence in Conservation Science was Esri. This award is given to a company or organization dedicated to developing innovative research and technology to protect and restore our natural world and to improve the well-being of all who live in it.

JGI Mourns Loss of Dr. Wangari Maathai

The board and staff of the Jane Goodall Institute (JGI) are deeply saddened by the passing of Nobel laureate and Kenyan conservationist Dr. Wangari Maathai, a longtime friend of the Institute and a member of Jane Goodall’s International Advisory Council.
