Jane Goodall's Roots & Shoots
Immediate Release: JANE GOODALL’S ROOTS & SHOOTS ANNOUNCES DR. JANE GOODALL AS A SPECIAL GUEST INSTRUCTOR FOR ONLINE COURSE
Three hundred days a year is a lot of time to be on the road and since 1986, that is exactly how Dr. Jane Goodall spends her time. Dr. Goodall’s days are filled with giving lectures, meeting with public officials, spending time with young people involved in Roots & Shoots and encouraging each one of us to make a difference to better our world for people, animals and the environment we all share. Dr. Goodall inspires by doing, by taking action — instead of just talking about what can be done.
Produced by National Geographic Television, this short video highlights Jane Goodall's Roots & Shoots, the global youth program of the Jane Goodall Institute which was founded by Dr. Jane Goodall and a group of Tanzanian students in 1991.
This October, after a short stop in Toronto, Canada, Jane made her way to the San Francisco Bay Area for a number of inspiring events. Her visit began with a lecture to staff at Clif Bar & Company about sustainable food practices and the importance of conservation. Prior to her remarks, Jane met with the company’s founders, Gary Erickson and Kit Crawford, and Kevin Cleary, the company’s chief executive officer, for a tour of the Clif Bar facility.
It’s certainly been an exciting fall for Jane! After receiving an honorary degree at University of St Andrews in Scotland, she headed to New York City to take part in the UN International Day of Peace, the International Women’s Earth and Climate Initiative Summit, and the Humane Education Conference.
Last week, during her recent stop in New York, and the International Women's Earth and Climate Summit, Dr. Goodall met with Dr. Vandana Shiva and CNN's Christiane Amanpour to discuss climate change, with special emphasis on the IPCC's recent report on the impact of human activity on it. Among her other remarks, Dr. Goodall specifically discussed her passion for empowering young people, and the Jane Goodall Institute's global environmental and humanitarian youth program, Jane Goodall's Roots & Shoots.
Last Friday, Jane was one of 17 inspiring individuals on site to receive an honorary degree at the University of St Andrews in Scotland. The day was filled with excitement as the event marked the celebration of the university’s 600th anniversary. You can read a press release about the event here.
