Danbury, CT: Dr. Goodall’s Keynote Speech at Western CT State University
Event Time: 8 PM EDT
Dr. Goodall will give a special keynote speech at Western Connecticut State University as part of the Jane Goodall’s Roots & Shoots North America Training Summit held on campus. The lecture is free and open to the general public, but tickets are required.
This year marks a monumental milestone for the Jane Goodall Institute (JGI) and our founder. Fifty years ago, Dr. Goodall, who is today a world-renowned primatologist, conservationist and UN Messenger of Peace, first set foot on the shores of Lake Tanganyika, in what is now Tanzania’s Gombe National Park. The chimpanzee behavioral research she pioneered there has produced a wealth of scientific discovery, and her vision has expanded into a global mission to empower people to make a difference for all living things.
In her speech, Gombe and Beyond: The Next 50 Years, Dr. Goodall will reflect—both personally and professionally—on the meaning of the past five decades, the extraordinary changes the world has seen since 1960, and the impact these changes have had on people, animals and the environment we all share. In addition, she will discuss the role we must all play over the next 50 years to ensure a better future for generations to come.
Of particular focus will be Jane Goodall’s Roots & Shoots, the global youth program that empowers young people to design and lead service projects that address environmental issues in their community. Dr. Goodall will also celebrate the longstanding partnership between JGI and WestConn, which is home to the Jane Goodall Center for Excellence in Environmental Science.
A book signing will follow the speech. Dr. Goodall’s books, JGI merchandise and memberships will be available for sale on site.
The public is invited. There is no cost to attend, but tickets are required. For tickets and information, call (203) 837-8499, or visit the WestConn Westside Campus Center Box Office.
Interpretation for individuals with hearing impairment will be available.
