Director, Membership & Marketing  

Reporting to the Vice President of Philanthropy, the Director of Membership & Marketing is a part Jane Goodall Institute’s national fundraising program and provides oversight for the membership program. They manage an ambitious, fast-growing direct marketing program designed to raise general operating funds for the Institute.  

Principle Accountabilities include:

  • Responsible for raising $3.4M+ per year. Consistently track income, work with finance department to ensure that goals are being met. Provide income/ statistics updates to JGI president, VP of Philanthropy and JGI board members as needed.
  • Develop creative strategy and messaging for all member communications. Manage programmatic information gathering and develop fundraising messaging.  Consistently provide innovative ideas for direct mail, telemarketing, email and cultivation materials. 
  • Serve as the primary liaison with retained direct marketing consulting firm, with day-to-day responsibility for direct mail acquisitions, rolling renewal program, appeals, and telemarketing. Ensure that production and mailing campaigns adhere to established schedules and budgets.
  • Solely responsible for all creative and strategy for email program including generating copy, design, and segmentation of emails lists. Provide ongoing management of CRM (CiviCRM), troubleshoot issues as necessary. Fulfill all email needs of JGI, including Office of the Founder, Roots & Shoot and Major Gifts departments
  • Oversee all membership programs including Chimp Guardian program, membership newsletter, JGI web store/ merchandise sales, EarthShare/CFC, Workplace Giving, Matching Gifts, Charity Buzz Auctions and all other special membership programs. Consistently work to find new outreach methods and programs to increase membership revenue.
  • Manage donor database (ROI Solutions), providing training to staff as needed, ensure adherence to established JGI database business rules, and accuracy of data.Work with JGI finance department, database vendor, and cashiering/caging vendors to help ensure maximum performance of integrated database/ accounting system.  

Unique Knowledge/Education and Skills:

  • Degreed professional with five to eight years of experience in direct marketing, three to five years of database management experience
  • Thorough understanding of donation flow and donor databases
  • Excellent analytical skills
  • Excellent copywriting and editing skills
  • Management experience
  • Commitment to the mission of the Jane Goodall Institute
