President Fernando Henrique Cardoso, Larry Summers, Buzz Aldrin, David Axelrod, Jane Goodall, and Arianna Huffington, Join Social Entrepreneurship Leaders from Ashoka to Address Critical Issues Across the Americas.
Miami, FL – October 17, 2013: Today, the Americas Business Council Foundation (abc*) announced its featured speakers and the 21 leading organizations from the Ashoka network that will present new initiatives and vie for funding at the 2013 Continuity Forum, to be held in Miami Beach on November 6th and 7th.
Now in its third year, the Continuity Forum is the preeminent event for sustainability and social entrepreneurship focused on the Americas. The theme of continuity is critical since far too many social and environmental projects are short-term fixes where the investors in the project are disconnected from its implementation, growth, and evaluation.
Founded by Latin American business and media leaders Emilio Azcárraga, Chairman and CEO, Grupo Televisa; Angélica Fuentes, President and CEO, Grupo Omnilife; Jorge Vergara, Chairman, Grupo Omnilife; Mario Scarpetta, Chairman, Grupo Azurita; and Guillermo Romo, President, Grupo Mega, abc*’s mission is to identify, replicate, and improve the most innovative global solutions to social and environmental challenges facing the Americas. Going well beyond traditional philanthropy, abc* chooses its portfolio of supported initiatives by identifying organizations who can have a tremendous impact in the Americas once they receive abc*’s hands-on support, financial assistance, and data-driven planning.
“We are proud to bring together brilliant business, political, and media experts with grassroots leaders to identify and implement substantive solutions to some of the most pressing issues we face,“ said Camilo Galvis, Executive Director of the abc* Foundation. “With hands-on help from abc*, the initiatives will have the capacity to be scaled up or replicated to achieve specific objectives with measurable goals that help solve critical challenges in the Americas.”
The 2013 Continuity Forum will convene an elite group of more than 500 business, media, and political leaders with 21 social entrepreneurs from Ashoka pitching their ideas to address issues ranging from poverty and food security, to environmental sustainability, community building and social justice. abc* will choose three initiatives to receive funding and intensive advisory, media and marketing support from abc* and its partners over the next two years.
These partnerships will involve a continuous transfer of knowledge, resources, and access that creates lasting, innovative solutions.
Featured speakers at the 2013 Continuity Forum will include Fernando Henrique Cardoso, Former President of Brazil and Commissioner for the Global Commission on Drug Policy; Larry Summers, President Emeritus and Charles W. Eliot University Professor of Harvard University; Buzz Aldrin, Astronaut, Apollo 11; Henry Arteaga, Founder & Director of 4 Elementos Skuela; David Axelrod, Political Consultant and Strategist; Gabriela Cowperthwaite, Director, Producer and Writer; Sylvia Earle, former chief scientist at the U.S. National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration; Jane Goodall, Founder of the Jane Goodall Institute; Jeffrey Hollender, Co-Founder of Seventh Generation; Arianna Huffington, President and Editor-in-Chief of the Huffington Post Media Group; Chris Jordan, internationally acclaimed artist and photographer; Thomas E.
