JGI's Coffee Partner Awarded First Place Prize at Tanzanian Competition

Kanyovu Coffee Cooperative, the group of coffee farmers with whom the Jane Goodall Institute (JGI) works, was awarded first place in the 2013 Tanzania Taste of the Harvest Competition.  The cooperative competed with its Arabica coffee.

The competition included an impressive turnout of samples from the Tanzanian coffee sector, including 41 Arabicas and nine Robusta samples. All of the samples were judged for their intrinsic quality characteristics using the Speciality Coffee Association of America's protocol.  The characteristics include aroma, acidity, clean-cup composition, uniformity of cup, and aftertaste.

As one of the top five winners, Kanyovu Coffee Cooperative will be showcased at the 11th African Fine Coffees Association Conference and Exhibition in Bujumbura, Burundi in February 2014.
