The Jane Goodall Institute’s “Good for All” Brand

WOODSTOCK, N.Y., January 1, 2010 — This season, two of Primitive Makeup’s lipsticks will be sporting a new look: the Jane Goodall Institute’s (JGI) “Good for All” brand. While the brand has appeared on other consumer products in the past, Primitive is the first cosmetic company in the world to carry the mark.

“The Good for All brand is a big milestone for Primitive because it recognizes our company’s core values and the efforts we’ve put into developing 100 percent natural products for women who care about their look, health and environment,” says Nancy Caigan, co-founder of Primitive Makeup.

“More importantly, the Good for All brand gives women an everyday opportunity to contribute to an amazing organization that’s empowering people to make a difference for all living things. We’re very excited about our partnership with JGI.”

Dr. Jane Goodall, DBE, founder of JGI and a UN Messenger of Peace, established JGI in 1977 to continue her pioneering research on chimpanzee behavior—research that transformed scientific perceptions of the relationship between humans and animals. Today, the Institute is a global leader in the effort to protect chimpanzees and their habitats. It also is widely recognized for establishing innovative community-centered conservation and development programs in Africa, and the Roots & Shoots global environmental and humanitarian youth program, which has groups in 110 countries (www.janegoodall.org).

JGI created the Good for All brand in 2007 to recognize companies and environmentally conscious products that reflect Dr. Goodall’s core values. Dr. Goodall personally selected two Primitive lipsticks – Belize and Tahiti – to carry the mark and kick off the partnership between the two organizations. A percentage of the sales of these lipsticks will go directly to JGI to support its programs.

Caigan’s business partner, Susanna Ronner, — a graphic designer and dancer with a strong sense of style and color — says, “Primitive Makeup’s chic and enticing palette was carefully selected to accentuate the natural beauty of women of all cultures.”

Ronner notes that Primitive has always maintained that beauty and glamour should not come at the expense of one’s health.

Other groups have taken note of Primitive’s commitment to promoting healthy, natural beauty. This year the company’s lipstick earned a Beauty with a Conscience Award from Natural Solutions magazine, and they also won Best Lip Gloss!

“Out of hundreds of natural products that passed our criteria, your product stood head and shoulders above the rest,” the editors said in announcing the awards. “You have earned our admiration for combining healthy ingredients and sustainable processes with the luxury and indulgence of high-end skincare. We applaud you for creating a fabulous product that’s not only free of unnecessary chemicals and harmful toxins—it also outperformed all other clean lip glosses we tested! Take pride in the strides you’ve made to promote safe, natural personal care.”

Primitive Makeup products are available online at Primitive’s website www.primitivemakeup.com, and through the JGI store at www.janegoodall.org/store. For a list of retailers, please go to www.primitivemakeup.com or call +1.845.679.2264.

Primitive Makeup will be exhibiting at Natural Products Expo West in Anaheim, March 12-14, 2010.

About Primitive Makeup
Primitive Makeup was founded in 2003 by entrepreneurs Nancy Caigan and Susanna Ronner and is based in Woodstock, N.Y. The company’s all-natural product line was initially available in New York’s Hudson Valley and the Capitol District before going national in 2006. In 2007, following three years of success in boutiques and specialty shops, Primitive’s line caught the attention of health-conscious buyers at Whole Foods Market, which has over 199 stores in North America and the United Kingdom. Other well-known regional and national stores, including Vitamin Cottage, Central Market and Mrs. Green’s, also carry the line.
