Letter from Dr. Jane Goodall, Founder

Dear Members and Friends of JGI,
Half a century has passed since I first set foot in what is today Gombe National Park in Tanzania to begin studying the behavior of chimpanzees, one of our closest living relatives. So much has happened since then.
These days, I am more likely to be found on an airplane, meeting with corporate leaders or speaking to large crowds of people than to be connecting directly with chimpanzees. Yet the work I am doing now is critically important to the protection of these extraordinary creatures, not just in Gombe, but throughout their range in Africa.
