4:00 PM - Transportation to the Wyngate Hotel from Omaha Epley Airfield

7:30 PM–8:30 PM - Welcome Reception and Buffet Dinner

 

— Thursday, March 17, 2011 —

5:00 AM–5:45 AM - Breakfast at the Wyngate Hotel

5:45 AM - Depart for Rowe Sanctuary
Rowe Sanctuary offers guided trips to view the world’s largest concentration of sandhill cranes from observation blinds on the banks of the Platte River. To learn more, visit www.rowesanctuary.org.

6:30 AM–8:30 AM - Blind Viewing
Coffee and hot chocolate will be provided.

9:00 AM–11:30 AM - Return to the Wyngate Hotel for Free Time

11:30 AM–1:30 PM - Lunch at the Minden Opera House
Accompanying lunch will be a presentation by the Jane Goodall Institute.

1:30 PM–6:00 PM - Birding with Scott Weidensaul at the Rainwater Basin
Scott Weidensaul is an acclaimed natural history writer and author to more than two dozen books. In addition to writing, he is an active field researcher focusing on bird migration. Visit his website at www.scottweidensaul.com.

6:00 PM–8:30 PM - Evening Blind Viewing at the Rowe Sanctuary
Sandwiches and light fare will be provided.

8:30 PM - Return to the Wyngate Hotel for the Evening

Morning Free Time

12:00 PM–2:00 PM - Visit to the Museum of Nebraska Art (MONA)
Discover the story behind the art of Nebraska at the Museum of Nebraska Art. MONA has been home of the state’s official art collection since 1979. To find out more, visit http://monet.unk.edu/mona. Lunch will be provided.

During the visit to the Museum of Nebraska Art there will be a program to showcase local artists, including Rick Rasmussen and Jorn Olsen.

3:30 PM–5:30 PM - Nature Photography Workshop and Field Survey at the Nebraska Nature and Visitors Center
The Nebraska Nature and Visitors Center seeks to tell the story of the Platte River to increase awareness and appreciation of the Platte River ecosystem. Learn more at www.nebraskanature.org.

5:30 PM–6:00 PM - Cocktails with Dr. Jane Goodall and Tom Mangelsen
Thomas Mangelsen is an acclaimed nature photographer, a long-time friend of Dr. Jane Goodall and supporter of the Institute. View his work at www.mangelsen.com.

6:00 PM–7:30 PM - Dinner and presentation by the Jane Goodall Institute with Guests of Honor Dr. Jane Goodall and Tom Mangelsen

8:00 PM - Return to Wyngate Hotel for the Evening
