July ‘08: ‘Primates’

This is a trip of a lifetime but following are some things to consider before signing up:
- Due to the limit on permits for walking with chimpanzees and gorillas, this program is limited to 8 travelers. The trip will fill up quickly and is for double occupancy only.
- In order to hold and play with baby chimps you will need a series of immunizations or proof that you have already had them. Once you sign up you will receive the required form that will need to be filled out by a Medical Doctor. If you decide not to walk with the chimps you may choose to be a caretaker for the day, which involves helping to prepare meals, clean cages and do checkups on the chimps.
- The baby chimp and gorilla trekking experiences can be quite strenuous. The chimps weigh about 40 pounds and want to be carried around through dense bush. They are strong and very rambunctious. The gorilla trekking can be long and arduous through dense and wet forest and up steep banks (depending on where the gorillas are). You must be physically fit to get the most from both experiences. Sighting of the gorillas is not guaranteed, but the Wildlife Authorities do their best to make sure the tourists get to the gorillas.
- You are permitted to take photos of the gorillas but can not take cameras with you during your walk with the chimps.
