Summary Itinerary Tanzania/Uganda ‘Primates’ July 20 - 30, 2008

Day 1 – July 20,  2008
Arusha

Evening arrivals from US, Transfers from Kilimanjaro International Airport to our lodge. Meet JGI Africa Adventures specialist Lori Robinson, and our local safari guide who will accompany us throughout Tanzania.

Day 2 – July 21,  2008
Ngorongoro Crater

Breakfast and briefing about our adventure together.
Drive to the Ngorongoro Crater.  Arrive in time for lunch at our lodge. 
This afternoon we will visit a traditional Maasai manyatta (village) and learn about the unique customs of this tribe.

Day 3 –July 22,  2008
Ngorongoro Crater

Drive down into the Crater (one of the wonders of the world) and spend the day exploring and wildlife viewing. The vast number of animals is like nowhere else in the world.  Picnic Lakeside in the Crater.

Day 4 –July 23,  2008
Serengeti

Drive to Lake Manyara to catch our morning flight to Serengeti National Park. 
En route to our accommodations there will be lots of wildlife to see
among the diverse ecosystems of East Africa’s largest and most famous park.

Day 5 – July 24,  2008
Serengeti

Spend the morning exploring and game viewing in the vast and diverse Serengeti National Park. After lunch we will have time to relax by the pool and enjoy the spectacular setting of our lodge.

Day 6 –July 25, 2008
Serengeti

Spend the day exploring or relaxing. Your choice. The camp is situated above a pool with resident hippos and frequent visits from elephants and other wildlife. At night the sounds of lions and hyenas are often heard.

Day 7 –July 26, 2008
Entebbe

This morning we will take a chartered flight to Uganda. Arrive in time for lunch and a briefing about this portion of our trip. Take the short boat ride across the equator to Ngamba Island. Tour the island, meet the chimpanzees, and learn about this unique sanctuary.

Day 8 –July 27, 2008
Ngamba Island

Today we will have the chance (for those who have had the required medical shots) to walk and play with the baby chimps, or to be a chimp caretaker. This afternoon we will visit a local fishing village (Myende Island) and learn about life on this remote island.

Day 9 –July 28, 2008
Bwindi Impenetrable Forest

Take our boat back to the mainland to catch our chartered flight to Bwindi. After lunch we will have a guided walk through the local village to see the school, medicine man, and local banana ginnery.

Day 10 –July 29, 2008
Bwindi Impenetrable Forest

Early am briefing and hike in Bwindi Impenetrable Forest to view wild gorillas.
Following lunch spend the afternoon relaxing.

Day 11–July 30, 2008
Entebbe

After breakfast we will take our chartered flight back to Entebbe. Day rooms will allow us to freshen up, and we will have our farewell dinner before catching our international flights home. Time permitting we may have a last minute shopping excursion to a local market.
